Orton-Gillingham-based corrective reading, handwriting correction, and kindergarten readiness

Sometimes a student is not just struggling in reading or language arts-they are a struggling reader. Struggling readers, with or without a diagnosis of a reading disability or dyslexia need special corrective reading techniques. An Orton-Gillingham approach to correcting reading is the gold standard in the industry. Teaching the encoding and decoding of sounds and building phonological processing is key to changing a struggling reader to a thriving one. Multi-sensory, explicit, systematic corrective reading instruction is an alternative approach to teaching reading, writing, and spelling-that really works. It takes an investment in time-but the results are real.

Like ALL of our programs, our corrective handwriting program is research-based! Our curriculum draws from years of research to provide developmentally appropriate, multi-sensory tools and strategies to correct letter formation, orientation, spacing, and posture. Study Skills a need?  Study Skills are more about changing behaviors and developing tools and strategies than they are about cramming down a way to study. Underachieving students are often very smart but lack the motivation or know-how or both.

Coaching works! Neuroscientists suggest that the brain is flexible in its ability to learn all the time and new research provides evidence of this when the brain is challenged or when new experiences occur. ​ Coaching actually helps to forge new neural pathways in the brain, allowing it to develop competencies in areas that have been deficient prior. This is how new habits, attitudes, and skills are developed.

Consulting is explicit education provided to a parent with the sole purpose of helping each make an informed decision about their child's education or related educational issue. We make referrals, school placements, represent parents at conferences, IEP and 504, and eligibility meetings for special education and the like, as well as help navigate the school system and its resources. and offer expertise in executive functioning and psycho-educational testing referrals.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to being a loving, effective parent. Parent Coaching is a new method of coaching focused on ensuring a positive parent-child relationship through a compassionate, non-judgmental, collaborative partnership between parents and a trained, experienced coach.

This relationship allows a parent to successfully identify and navigate the challenges of raising children and striving for a healthy family. The parent coaching relationship provides the ongoing support and education needed to be successful in a process of change. Coaching is a strengths-based approach to reduce family stress; expand choices; and achieve positivity. Using powerful & effective tools for improving relationships, parents utilize coaching as a way to gain insights into their parenting, identify strengths, clarify goals, and to incorporate strategies to address challenges with respect to each family's specific needs. Subject Tutoring: Math, Reading, Writing, Phonics, End of Year Test Prep, Private School [SSAT & ISEE] & Specialty Test Prep [ASVAB, GRE]

Our one on one, private tutoring provides academic support in all areas. Our methods are backed by research and achieve real results. Our specialists utilize materials already aligned to the exact practices being used in the classroom-using NC Standards. We encourage the use of thinking aloud, using tools, and solving problems in an individual way that works for the student. We make learning hands-on and provide manipulatives so learning integrates understanding with the abstract. We emphasize what students can do, rather than what they cannot do, which leads to a very different approach regarding incorrect test answers. All our specialists are highly qualified teachers and session frequency is individualized to the student's needs- come for a while, or get single session help. Math Tutoring. Reading Tutoring.

In addition to subject tutoring we provide one on one test prep for end of year, course or specialty testing. Private and Parochial schools often times require students to successfully pass an entrance exam in order to gain admission. At Success4School we see these exams as windows of opportunity for your child to show what they know and for you to see if the school is the right fit. Students need time for test prep and review of material- don't leave any exam to chance.

Discovery-appointment #1-initial consultation

Everyone gets started with an initial consultation-it’s two appointments, one flat fee, and worth your time!

The first part is the Discovery Appointment. This is an appointment for the student. Our learning specialist will explore your goals and determine your child's learning and thinking style. Parents need to bring in a copy of the child's report card, teacher contact information, and any psycho-educational evaluations. After a brief chat, parents will then complete intake forms. Feel free to bring any discipline, academic, organizational or other concerns to the table- so we can provide support for the whole child and family in mind. We want to help you, regardless. Once we gather all the data-we will make recommendations.

STRATEGY & ACTION-APPOINTMENT #2-INITIAL CONSULTATION

The second part is the Strategy & Action Appointment. Results from the Discovery Appointment are shared as well as recommended services. If a family is invited to participate in services, we will walk you through every step of the way. ​ You will find, as most parents do, that this consultation is not just some skills assessment like at big name learning centers- but it is a platform for change for every child & family. Take-away strategies will be discussed in the meeting, regardless if you move forward with services. Should either party decide not to move forward, the diagnostician is happy to complete a written narrative summary of the recommendations*, so you can implement other recommended strategies at home or seek related services. Those that move forward will receive a SuccessPlan for their child, so we are all on the same page.

PLACEMENT & COST-LAST STEP

After you decide you want to move forward with services, you will work with the Services Director to choose standing session times that work with your family-once set, sessions begin. The initial consultation is typically $195, flat-fee and includes both appointments. There are no other hidden fees- and you are under no obligation to move forward with services-just insightful data empowering parents to make decisions on their own terms.
